----------------------...The Lotus Seven began as an uprated
----------------------version of the successful Lotus Mark 6.
----------------------Its introduction was put off until time was
----------------------found in the busy racing schedule.
---------------------...The chassis is a simplified version of the
----------------------Eleven.
----------------------...It has a steel tube frame with stressed
----------------------aluminum panels in the undertray and sides,
--------------------- and aluminum bodywork, ( later with glass-
----------------------fiber nose and fenders ).
----------------------...A variety of engines ( BMC, Ford, and
----------------------Coventry Climax ) were used, and many
----------------------upgrades were made over the 16 years of
----------------------production.
----------------------...Low and light, with incredible handling, it
----------------------is very quick, and a winner of innumerable
----------------------club races.
----------------------...Lotus discontinued production after the
----------------------introduction of the steel backbone framed,
----------------------glass-fiber bodied, Series 4 ( Type 60 ).
----------------------...Licensed replicas are still in production
----------------------today as a variant of the Series 3 Seven,
----------------------called the Caterham Seven.-----
